Narrows Creek Garden is a 3rd generation family farm operated by Sandy and Melvin Smith. We are focusing on growing Aronia berries, an emerging ‘super fruit’ that may aid in fighting cancer, lowering cholesterol, and helping control diabetes. Aronia berries, also known as a chokeberry, are used for juice, jelly, wine, and additions for both color and flavor to yogurt, sauces and an endless variety of other food products.
In addition to establishing our Aronia berry plantings, this year we are planning a fall harvest fair that will include artwork and area artists, pumpkins, squash, colored corn, broom corn, gourds, a farmer’s market hosted in our low‐cost, geodesic domes.
We are engaged in on-going experiments in greenhouse technology that includes an underground greenhouse, a winter greenhouse, as well as subterranean heating and cooling to extend the growing season.
